What is MDA? The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary national health agency- - - A dedicated partnership between scientists and conferred citizens aimed at conquering Neuromuscular diseases that affect Hundreds of thousands of Americans. Energized by its National Chairman--- Jerry Lewis, MDA today is one of the world's leading voluntary health agencies fostering research and patient care. MDA's programs are funded almost entirely by individual private contributors. The Association receives no governments grants, nor does it seek or receive fees from patients or their families.
What does MDA Do?
MDA works to combat 40 neuromuscular diseases through (1) basic and applied Scientific investigation, (2) comprehensive programs of patient services and clinical care, and (3) widespread professional and public health education. Thanks to Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, carried by "Love Networks" stations nationwide, and many other fundraising projects, involving all sectors of the community, MDA has been able to organize and maintain:
